A new doppleganger on the block, lots of magic and a crazy Elena (Nina Dobrev). Does anyone else feel that crazy Elena eased the pain of missing Katherine (also Nina Dobrev)?
Let’s bitch it out…
We all know how I generally feel about Elena. She’s annoying and self righteous (actually this is generally what leads to the annoying), and has a holier than thou attitude. But crazy Elena? Now her I like. She is someone I can support. Elena was phenomenal in this episode – in my humble opinion of course. And the reason is that when she’s hallucinating and going crazy, she doesn’t have time to be annoying or self righteous. She’s too blinded by her need for (vampire) blood. I really enjoy crazy Elena and think its too bad that story ended so quickly. The writers could have dragged this out for much longer and maybe I would have had a break from hating the female lead of the show.
Speaking of how crazy Elena and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are now cured, does anyone else think that was entirely too easy? Elena was infected for less than one episode and Damon for not much longer. Vampires who feed on other vampires? This is a story that could have dragged on for seasons! Its a fresh take on the vampire culture for this show and there are so many opportunities for stories to stem from this. All of a sudden Enzo (Michael Malarkey) shows up and has all the answers right when they are needed? A little convenient if you ask me. But oh well. Oh how quickly it has come and gone already.
I can’t say that I haven’t always been curious about why Elena exists when there isn’t another Stefan (Paul Wesley) out there. So it seems only natural that we would meet the new guy now, seeing as how Katherine is now dead and we are short a doppleganger in our lives. Though it seems that the new guy is about the opposite of Katherine Pierce and actually has a career saving lives as a paramedic. So many questions about the new guy. Is he a human? Does he know any of this mythology and that he has a doppleganger? Too bad for new guy that he won’t live long enough to find all this out…. Or this could be completely predictable and Caroline (Candice Accola) and Enzo are not actually going to be able to kill the guy. This is a Stefan doppleganger for goodness sake! Is he really just going to be killed off like that without us finding out anything else about him? Without Stefan knowing about him? I highly doubt it my friends, so I would be prepared for new guy to be around for awhile. We just lost the camera tricks of one actor playing two characters so we need a new one, STAT!

Other Observations:
- I honestly don’t blame Elena for being pissed. I would be too if the people closest to me didn’t realize I was someone else for WEEKS. The people who are supposed to know her the best didn’t realize that she was a psychotic killer and now she’s awake and just has to deal with the consequences. I wouldn’t be too excited about my little family either. I think she let them off the hook a little too easily. Maybe that will bring out crazy Elena again!
- Really? There’s a sordid back story to the witch Liv (Penelope Mitchell) who just came out of nowhere in to the group and she’s not who she says she is? Gee who would have seen that one coming.
- Okay, I get it that maybe Elena has Damon’s cell phone number memorized, but would she really have Aaron’s?! I mean, that’s a new phone Stefan brings her, meaning it wouldn’t have any of the old numbers, right? But wait, I guess I’m watching a show full of vampire, witches and werewolves, so a little stretch of the imagination involving her cell phone is the least of my worries.
So where do Damon and Elena go from here? Are the Delena days done? Are we in for a friends with benefits type relationship from there? What do you think will happen to new guy? Can nobody else sense the sexual tension between Stefan and Caroline? Because I am loving it!!
