In it return episode after Olympics break, The Vampire Diaries gives the viewers some surprises, some steamy make outs and some brutal murders. Will the gang all be able to recover from the fallout?
Let’s bitch it out…
As a ‘Stelena’ fan through and through, I will tell you one thing: a romance between Stephan (Paul Wesley) and Katherine (Nina Dobrev) is no Stelena. Stephan and Elena (also played by Nina Dobrev) are passionate and they are star crossed lovers and they belong together (…in my humble opinion of course). There’s something so sinister about the Stephan and Katherine relationship that I just can’t get behind. She is always tricking him or playing an angle and it just makes the whole thing seem false. I won’t lie to you – I actually cringed when they kiss in the hotel room. I used to love Stelena love scenes because they could make you believe in sweet, sweet true love despite all odds (I know, I know, try not to barf). But Stephan and Katherine is the exact opposite. I couldn’t wait for the scene to be over. I am actually disappointed in him that he falls for her feminine wiles and watches her get changed. I am trying not to barf but for a completely different reason.
At first, I wasn’t a Katherine fan. I can admit it. But over the years, I’ve become one of her biggest fans. She’s sarcastic, funny and entertaining. However, Katherine in Elena’s body, pretending to be Elena for an extended period of time? No thank you. I can’t be the only one who finds her fake and forced in this episode, am I? For example, that whole scene with the car where she pops the trunk and tries to find a way to break the car? Please. It is so fake and overacted it’s actually surprising. When Dobrev is Elena, she’s great. Its natural and even though Elena is annoying as all get out, it feels real. When Dobrev is Katherine, she’s impeccable. Sarcastic, witty perfection. But when Dobrev is Katherine trying to be Elena? Something doesn’t ring true. She tries too hard. That’s what it comes down to. And if there’s any chance the fates will turn in my direction, we won’t have to deal with this much longer.
I swear, I thought this debacle of Katherine/Elena was going to go on until season finale time. At least until May sweeps. But it looks like the Mystic Falls band of misfits have come together to figure out the mystery sooner than I thought. Maybe vampire momma and her Victoria’s Secret push up bra will be out of that body by this time next week. My only concern with that is where will Katherine go then? We need Katherine in our lives, but who’s body can she take over? Will the Mystic Fall dream team even let her take over someone else’s body now that they know it’s happening? The only option is annoying daughter Nadia (Olga Fonda) but she’s got that small problem of a werewolf bite that is currently killing her to deal with before that’s a real option. Oh Katherine. What is to become of you?
Poor Damon (Ian Somerhalder). The poor guy can’t catch a break. His ego is bruised, he lost his girl and now he’s a cannibal. That wouldn’t be so bad if all his loved ones weren’t vampires that he now wants to feed on. But Stephan is right. Damon just needs to suck it up and learn how to control it. Both of them had a long term relationship with a human girl, including some time in the most carnal sense, yet neither of them gave in to the urge to kill her. If they can do that, Damon can learn to control this. Piece of cake. I don’t know what he’s so worked up about.
Other Observations:
- Someone please explain to me how Damon, Stephan and Katherine got out of that house! Damon was trapped in there the entire day trying not to rip his best friend’s head off, but as soon as Stephan snaps Damon’s neck, the spell is broken and they can leave? Dr. Wes (Rick Cosnett) left with Enzo (Michael Malarkey) so one could argue that the spell was broken then, but when Stephan and Katherine arrive, it seemed to still be in place. So colour me confused.
- At least Tyler (Michael Trevino) is good for something. There’s the potential that I can finally be rid of the annoying daughter thanks to my little hybrid friend. But at this point, I’m so confused about who can actually save her. Is it still just Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) blood that can cure a werewolf bite, or is it any hybrid? I’m thinking that its any hybrid, meaning that Katherine is going to try to get Tyler to save her daughter next week, but I can’t see that happening. Tyler doesn’t trust Nadia and will want to protect his bff (Zach Roerig) from being compelled any more. Sorry Nadia. With any luck, next week will be my last time writing about you!
So what did you think of ‘No Exit’? Were you as surprised as I was that Stephan and Caroline (Candice Accola) figured out the Katherine secret by one letter? Do you think the team will be successful in getting Elena back? Where do you think Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) are when all this is going on? Sound off below!
The Vampire Diaries airs on Thursday nights at 8pm EST on the CW.
