It took a little while, but now we’re getting somewhere – new college town means new town council hunting our team of vampires. Add to that a re-occuring third role for Nina Dobrev, and you’ve got a whole lot of whining.
Let’s bitch it out…
I was okay with it when it was only a flashback episode. I was even happy. They finally explained the doppleganger mystery that had been plaguing this show for five seasons and made me understand the mystery. But this is too much. Between the now three roles for Nina Dobrev and two for Paul Wesley, that is a heck of a lot of us viewers staring at the same faces over and over for an hour. This is what we have cut out series regulars, like Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) or Tyler (Michael Trevino), screen time for? As you can see, I’m not sold on this new addition to the cast. This is going to take some work… or some quick deaths of these two thousand year old humans. I’m good with either.
At least some good came out of this episode. And I really just mean good for me. Watching Tessa (Janina Gavankar) call out Elena (Nina Dobrev) for being whiny and annoying the whole episode is just priceless. And here I thought it was just the viewers that could see it. I guess they can in the writer’s room too! Seriously, does she not get how awkward and so inappropriate it is for her to tell Tessa and Stefan (Paul Wesley) about how Damon (Ian Somerhalder) puts her above everyone and would do anything to protect her? And then, if that’s not inappropriate enough, she later tells Stefan that his first instinct is always to protect her, whether he can remember it or not. Am I the only one that is amazed she has the balls to say that to him? Way to only think of yourself there Elena… yet again.
On another positive note, I’ve realized lately with human Katherine (Nina Dobrev) how much I adore Katherine, and hate Elena. Katherine is fun and funny, sarcastic and always looking for a good time. Elena is brooding, self centred and whiny. No wonder I like Katherine better. I am totally in favour of way more Katherine and way less Elena. Though I fear that I won’t see my wish come true. Something is definitely wrong with Katherine now, and I’m hoping Dr. Maxfield (Rick Cosnett) will help save her. She brings some laughter and fun to Mystic Falls and it just will not be the same without her.
Well, we knew it would happen eventually. We haven’t seen anything about the town council in Mystic Falls in awhile (I’m thinking its because most members, at least the prominent ones, have been killed over the years), so we knew there would be another council somewhere along the way. This one at least has a creative name. As I know we are meant to be, I’m reasonably intrigued in this whole Augustine vampire. We know that it can’t be patient 62, 547 like Katherine suggested, because that’s Jesse (Kendrick Sampson) and he was only turned after the roommate was killed. But what’s the deal with Aaron (Shaun Sipos) being at a party for a secret society, but not knowing about the secret society? Is he dumb or just crafty? That remains to be seen.
Other Observations:
- Let’s just get this done already. Is Bonnie (Kat Graham) in or is she out? I cannot handle much more of martyr Bonnie in the afterlife so let’s pick a side and go with it, please.
- Caroline (Candice Accola) is perfection, as usual. Having a moment while draining the blood of Dr. Maxfield, and then thinking its totally normal, is so perfectly Caroline. I’m glad my girl hasn’t been lost to this whole Tyler storyline. It’s been all she’s talked about for a few seasons now, so I’m excited to see her back and having more to do and say than just miss Tyler.
- I’m really hoping that when all of Stefan’s memories return at once, we don’t have another “flip the switch” situation on our hands. Remembering two hundred years that were mostly filled with being a ripper and killing people in bloody, violent deaths is probably not easy to take. But please. I’ve had enough ripper Stefan. If they keep this up, it’s going to turn in to a once a season type occurrence, which just loses its power. Leave it be and just let him feel the pain, I’m begging you.
So what did you think of tonight’s episode? Do you think we’ve already met the Augustine vampire? What do you think is wrong with Katherine? Will we ever see the end of Bonnie dearest? Sound off below!
