It’s all about the girls on tonight’s episode of The Originals as we find out more about the body Rebekah (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) is inhabiting and we learn who’s side Freya (Riley Voelkel) is really on.
Let’s bitch it out…
I’m not sure what to think about this whole Freya business. I know that’s the point of her character, but still. It bothers me when I’m not sure how to read a character and I’m not sure who’s side they’re on. Freya seems to be on her own side, with the show making us think she’s running up against our brothers dearest. When she got Rebekah out of the weird witch hell house a few weeks ago, she indicated that she was pissed with Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and she has been helping Finn (Yusuf Gatewood) ever since, even going so far as to raise him from the dead after Elijah blew him up.
However, she was pretty damn quick to switch sides and offer a deal to Klaus and Elijah and put Finn’s soul in her weird necklace pendant thing. (Btw- is anyone else freaked out by that?) Now she’s got Mikael (Sebastian Roche) awake, searching for ingredients to help her spell against Dahlia, and she seems to be working on the brothers’ side. But I just don’t trust her. I know she missed the thousand years where Mikael made everyone’s life a living hell and hunted them down like animals, but still. She trusted him a little too easily, and has a little too much rage against their mother. She claims that she had no part in Finn going after baby Hope, but she still let him go there knowing what he would do. So whatever she says is still suspect to me.
A big part of the episode was learning more about the body that Rebekah had taken over; Eva St. Claire. It seems that Kol (an unseen Daniel Sharman) picked the most awful witch that exists – one that kills children to steal their magic. Again, the creep factor is high.
If the ending is any indication, the Rebekah storyline is only getting creepier. It seems that Eva is waking up and trying to take her body back and those dead kids are the proof. I’m not sure what this means for Rebekah, but I’m thinking we are going to have to call on sister Freya to save Rebekah from this. Let’s just hope she doesn’t end up in a necklace like her brother until Claire Holt is ready to come back to the show and play Rebekah again.
Other Observations:
- There seems to be some dissension among the ranks of the newly created hybrid werewolf pack already. And Klaus is right there to whisper sweet nothings of a takeover in the ear of the second in command. Colour me not surprised. Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) is giving Klaus some push back about using the wolves so much so Klaus is angling to get what he wants another way. Hayley should realize that showing any disloyalty to Klaus will have consequences. Now we just wait and see if anything actually comes of this.
- I find it difficult to believe that Josephine (Meg Foster), the almighty witch queen, is ready to kick sophisticated Elijah out of her house but suddenly relents when mouthy Gia (Nishi Munshi) pipes up? She finds Gia’s rebellion “refreshing”? Let’s get serious. I expected more from this show. When I saw it coming a mile away, I thought for sure I was wrong because its just so obvious. <Sigh>. But look at that. Elijah had planned to use Gia’s attitude problems all along. <Even bigger sigh> And then, to my complete dismay, Elijah falls right in to her seduction. I mean, seriously? Tight laced Elijah with this rebellious teenager? I know he’s just blowing off some steam, but ugh. Just gives me the creeps. He’s better than this. So while Elijah was an absolute pleasure to look at this episode, I’m sitting here shaking my head because I’m totally disappointed in him.
- No sign of Cami (Leah Pipes) or Elijah’s mental problems this episode. I guess we are supposed to believe that when the therapist isn’t around, the problems don’t exist? Also no Davina (Danielle Campbell), so I guess we are supposed to assume she is off grieving Kol? Aren’t we all, sister, aren’t we all.
- I’m worried now that Finn has been removed from Vincent’s body. Not worried about either of the characters, but worried that we won’t see this actor again for much longer. I’ve developed a love for Yusuf Gatewood throughout the season and it would be a damn shame if the show lost him as an actor.
So what did you think of the return of The Originals? What do you think will happen to Rebekah now that the psycho witch is trying to take over? Do you think Elijah and Klaus can trust Freya? Will Mikael try to hurt the baby? Sound off below!
The Originals airs on Mondays at 8pm EST on the CW.

Idk, Freya probably blames Esther for the way Mikael is just like Finn, and thinks that she can change him somewhat back into the man she once knew. She seems genuine but also like she’s willing to do whatever it takes to take Dahlia down.
Now Hayley was just dumb to threaten Klaus like that because we all know how he gets when someone threatene him, but at the same time Klaus shouldn’t have threatened her pack first. If he keeps trying to control them he won’t have any allied left to help him protect Hope his enemies. And if Hayley is serious about leaving with Hope, the whole thing will turn into a whole different war surrounding Hope. Everyone would be against Klaus.
I think that Elijah has always been the type to think ahead to a plan b through q whenever his intial plan doesn’t work, so yeah he knew Gia would get through to the old witch somehow. She thought Gia was honest and relatable thus worth allying with. I guess it just seemed pretty plausible to me but that’s how TV works though. Like sometimes comvient things need to happen in order to move the plot along. I thought they played it well though and it showed how bold and clever Gia is.
Really? Elijah making the conscious decision to engage in consensual sex with a women he’s clearly taken with (whether he still loves Hayley or not) is disappointing? So he isn’t allowed to move on, like Hayley has? It’s not like Gia is some random stranger at a bar, because we know that isn’t like Elijah. The two seem like good friends who have a mutual interest in one another. Like, I personally don’t think it was about blowing off any steam, but regardless of why it happened, it’s still completely natural. It’s sex between two consenting adults( Gia ISNT a teenager). So…Im not sure where that point was supposed to be going.
Other than that nice review.

I meant that Gia rubs me the wrong way so I think Elijah deserves better! (But clearly she rubbed him the right way and I guess that’s what matters) I also think he deserves better than Hayley so I might be a little biased in this situation

I’ve been keeping up with your reviews and I gotta say- I agree with you wholeheartedly! I always suspected a connection with Gia and Marcel but I guess since Rebekah came back, it kind of just died down. Can’t wait to see more eps, especially of Cami and Klaus!
