In an intense episode that pits Elijah (Daniel Gillies) against Finn (Yusuf Gatewood) while solidifying the relationship between Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Kol (Daniel Sharman), we also get a glimpse in to some secrets of baby Hope.
Let’s bitch it out…
I have to start with the most shocking part of the episode for me. The baby. When Camille (Leah Pipes) is in town with the baby and makes a throw away comment about how Elijah shouldn’t have given the baby vampire blood to heal her cut, I instantly know that Elijah would never do that without first discussing it with Klaus. So we have our first clue about baby Hope – she heals quickly on her own. Next, when Cami is driving them back towards the house where death and destruction awaits and the car shuts down inexplicably… I have to be honest, I thought it was Freya (Riley Voelkel) that had come with Finn to get the baby. I was terrified for them for a half a second, until the house exploded and miraculously, the car started up again. Well, it seems that baby has some magic running through its veins already. I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, considering she’s part vampire, part hybrid, part werewolf and has some witch blood thrown in there somewhere for good measure. If the baby wasn’t supernatural, I would’ve been surprised.
If you’ve been following my posts, you know how much I’m liking Finn as the villain of the season. I do NOT, however, like what he did to my boy Kol. Last week there was a bit of hope for me that perhaps I misunderstood exactly what the curse meant, but there’s no confusion this episode, as Kol reveals to his siblings that he will be dying in the next few days. Ok. So that’s sad, but my first reaction is that we’re talking about a family of witches here, surely someone can save him? But my heart is broken near the end of the episode when Kol tells Klaus and Rebekah (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) that he knows that he’s been hexed and there’s no saving him. Umm.. what?! Wait wait wait that’s not what I want to hear. As Klaus put it earlier in the episode, this is the family that cheats death. So how can one of the be dying now?! I’m not writing his obituary just yet, but I’m getting a little more worried for his fate on the show as the weeks progress.
If there’s one thing I like seeing, its Elijah doing manual labour in his dress shirt and pants. It would’ve been better (but less realistic) had he left the tie on. Great idea Cami! Although some part of me cracked up when he woke up and had an axe sticking out of his back and a wooden handle sticking out of his front and just sat up like it was no big deal.
Considering Elijah is immortal and can only be killed by the white oak stake, I’m assuming I don’t have to worry about him dying in the explosion, but I’m wondering if that means that Finn will really be dead? If the spell worked, then he is mortal now and can be killed… which would indicate that Dahlia may be the new villain for the remainder of the season?
Other Observations:
- Watching Elijah and Cami play house with baby Hope remains my favourite scenes of the show lately. Watching Cami with the baby, I couldn’t help thinking that she would be a much better mother than Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). Possibly I’m a little biased though…
- Speaking of Hayley, wtf is going on out in the bayou now? All of a sudden, all these other packs want her hybrid power so Jackson (Nathan Parsons) is just sitting around, amassing an army of wolves? Geez they weren’t kidding when they nicknamed these two the king and queen of the wolves. Jack didn’t seem too put out as he watched his new disciples swearing their allegiance to him as their king. I’m starting to question him, just like Klaus does.
- Rebekah’s shock at the news that Hayley is getting married mirrors my own. I still do not understand why all these guys fall all over themselves for her.
- I guess the baby is not quite the national secret she used to be. Now everyone and their dog (or wolf) knows about Hope, but who knows if she’s in any real danger because it seems that she’s pretty adept at protecting herself! Maybe she’ll be the new witchy hero of the day.
What did you think of tonight’s episode? Were you surprised at the baby’s supernatural power? Do you think Finn died in the explosion? Do you think anyone will be able to save Kol? Sound off below!
The Originals airs on Mondays at 8pm EST on the CW.
I am enjoying Finn as the villain. I”m interested in Hope’s powers. I admit I can’t get too upset about Kol only because they have a ton of vampires around and any one of them can feed him their blood and suddenly Kol the Vampire is back. He wasn’t Finn or Ester who didn’t want to be a vampire, so unless I’ve missed something, I think there is a way out of Kol being dead.
