The female witches are a force to be reckoned with on the latest episode of The Originals and the original siblings are in big trouble as a result. Who do you think Elijah (Daniel Gillies) will be able to save?
Let’s bitch it out…
Clearly you all know what I’m about to say: WHY did Elijah choose Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin)? Why! He has been protecting his siblings for a thousand years and he’s known this baby mama for a hot second. And yet, when the chips are down and he knows that he can only pick one person to save, that’s who he chooses?
Okay. I need to take a step back and think about this rationally. We know how Elijah is. He’s the good guy; he’s the honourable guy. So if a pregnant woman he cares about is in trouble, obviously he’s going to help her first. I’m thinking his reasoning is that his siblings are impossibly strong, so they have a better chance than Hayley does. But doesn’t it bother anyone else that when we met Hayley in Mystic Falls, she was a tough werewolf who was bucking the system and raging against Klaus (Joseph Morgan). Now that she’s preggers, she is completely useless. All she does is get in trouble and wait for Elijah or Rebekah (Claire Holt) to save her. Case in point – her random kegger that results in this disaster. And so I will continue to pray for the day, somewhere in the extremely distant future apparently, when she will finally give birth to this child and hope that the demon child kills her in childbirth. (Yikes, too much?)
My darling Klaus. I am so proud of him for fighting to save Kieran (Todd Stashwick) and “doing what he does best”… even if that means threatening the life of a teenage girl. But again, let’s take a step back and look at the facts. Those witches are not playing fair. They cursed a man of God! They killed Cami’s (Leah Pipes) brother and his friends in a church. These ladies are pulling out all the stops. So the fact that Klaus threatens a young girl who has literally just come back from the dead isn’t looking so bad in my books. Clearly there is something more to the story about Monique (Yasmine Al-Bustami) rising from the ashes, so to speak, so I’m all in on Klaus’ decision on this one. Too bad Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) isn’t, or else maybe Klaus wouldn’t be missing right now with a crazy magical knife buried in his chest.
Clearly there isn’t something right with Monique, since she kills her only living relative, Sophie (Daniella Pineda). She acts like she’s under a spell or in a cult or something, as she spends most of the episode speaking in a monotone voice and walking around like a zombie. I mean, I could tell from the beginning that something wasn’t right with this girl, so why couldn’t her witch aunt? But considering how this show works, I’m not writing Sophie off just yet. If Celeste (Shannon Kane) can come back, and Monique can literally break out of her grave, then anything can happen. So I’m assuming Sophie isn’t dead, and I’m still holding out hope that Davina (Danielle Campbell) will be back.
Other Observations:
- Finally we get a glimpse of Elijah doing something more than pining over Hayley or fighting with Rebekah. When he comes in to kick some vampire butt and demand help finding his siblings, I remember exactly why it is that I love him. We needed this, Elijah and I. His character has been getting a little one dimensional lately and this is exactly what I needed to remind me why I’ve liked him since the Mystic Falls days.
- Poor Rebekah can’t catch a break. Seriously, any time a guy is interested in her, it ends in disaster. She looks so sad as she is laying on the ground, covered in werewolf bites and in pain.
- Another guy for Hayley? This girl is the lamest character on the show with the worst storyline, and she has three love interests? A baby daddy, his original brother and now her supposed to be husband Jackson (Nathan Parsons). How is this even possible? I get it, she’s kind of cute, but seriously? This is getting to be too much. But you know what? Of all three, Jackson is my favourite one for her. They have a weird werewolf connection, plus the whole arranged marriage deal and already I feel like she has more chemistry with him than my man Elijah.
- Speaking of Jackson, I wish I didn’t know him from his previous role on General Hospital (I know, I know, you don’t have to say it) because I know that he has an Australian accent in real life. So now watching him on this, I find his speech and cadence off and I find it distracting. (Clearly I don’t think he can do a Louisiana accent very well!) Does it sound normal to people who didn’t know this about him?
So where do you think we go from here? Clearly neither of the original siblings can die… right? Do you agree that Elijah made a lame (although completely predictable) decision by choosing to save Hayley? Are you liking the new werewolf characters? Sound off below!
The Originals airs on Tuesday night at 8pm EST on the CW.
