Danny (Ben Mendelsohn) turns his back on his family in an episode that loses all narrative agency.
Let’s bitch it out…
After nine reviews, I’ve come to the conclusion that Bloodline isn’t quite my cup of tea. With only a few episodes remaining in S1, I’ll finish off our coverage in the event anyone has been keeping up, but from now on Talk Backs will take the place of full reviews.
Here are the questions I pondered throughout ‘Part 10’:
- Why does John (Kyle Chandler) ask Eric (Jamie McShane) to deliver his warning to Danny? Why not just tell him yourself instead of giving Danny a chance to do something like he does?
- Did Meg (Linda Cardellini) tell Marco (Enrique Murciano) the truth about her affair because she wanted to be free of Danny’s threats? It didn’t really seem like Danny was still putting pressure on her as much as she wants to put the squeeze on him.
- Will Carlos (Eliezer Castro) tip Danny off that Meg is sniffing around? Danny may assume that John is his biggest adversary (which is why he tipped off Glenn Morshower’s Wayne), but Danny probably thinks he’s in the clear with this latest move. Trouble is that Meg is digging around the shed…
- I wasn’t entirely clear about the timeline, but are we meant to assume that the reason Sally (Sissy Spacek) wasn’t there when Danny’s accident occurred is because she had left Robert? Is that why she’s so adamant about protecting him now?
- Do you think Diana (Jacinda Barrett) feels vindicated now that the truth about Danny is coming out?
- Is it safe to assume – based on the conversation he has with Kevin (Norbert Leo Butz) – that Danny has no real feelings for Chelsea (Chloë Sevigny)?
- Side Note: How proud of her are you that she told Danny that she doesn’t want any part of him if he’s going to be trouble like her brother and her ex? Stand up for yourself, girl!
- Anyone surprised that Wayne chose to kill Ravi (Gino Vento) rather than send him away when the DEA investigation closes in? Methinks this doesn’t bode well for anyone else in the organization.
- Why, after all of the events of ‘Part 9’ and the closing of the net in this episode, does it feel like Bloodline takes place in molasses? God this episode felt slow, despite the fact that it should be ramping up. Ugh
