As predicted last week, Fringe revisits the monster-of-the-week format in its latest episode, but still manages to convey some clues to the season’s endgame even if the plot served more as a standalone.

This week’s episode of Fringe wasted no time, taking off right where we left off from last week where we were teased with the reappearance of David Robert Jones (Jared Harris). Will we find out what he’s doing back and how he managed to survive being sliced in half as a portal between two alternate dimensions closed on him?

Welcome back Fringe fans. After what seems like forever, Fringe finally kicks off its mid-season premiere with some significant narrative progression. Let’s hope the momentum continues with a string of new episodes and no more inexplicable hiatuses.

This week marked the fall finale of Fringe as it takes another hiatus until the new year. Plagued by mediocre ratings, and slow narrative progress, perhaps another long break isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Viewers need to get re-energized, and based on the teaser trailer of what’s upcoming, Fringe may return to much stronger numbers and viewer interest once it’s back from vacation. (We clearly need more Walternate, Faux-livia and the Observers)

Peter’s (Joshua Jackson) back and in full force this week as the team investigates time space anomalies popping up all around town.
This week’s episode, although does little to advance the more immediate questions regarding where the heck Peter has been all this time and why none of his buddies even know who he is, is still an entertaining installment of the season.
After last week’s episode was a bit of a let down in terms of the return of Peter, I pretty much expected we’d get a slow burn for most of the season before anything really juicy happens. If you’re able to put the anticipation aside and enjoy this episode as a standalone, it really is a pretty solid one.

TVangie is away this week on a well-deserved vacation, so I’m starting off our Fringe coverage in her absence. Look for her thoughts on the series starting next week.
After a three week absence (thanks World Series!), Fringe returns with its first new episode since Peter Bishop’s (Joshua Jackson) reappearance. So far this season we’ve been asked to reconstruct not only the world of Fringe, but also all of the relationships between our principle players in the aftermath of Peter using the machine to bridge the two worlds. ‘Novation’ continued to address some lingering questions while advancing the plot regarding the new human-hybrid shapeshifters, but considering this was the first time Peter has been physically present, the lack of interaction between Walter (John Noble), Olivia (Anna Torv) and Peter was disappointing.
