Is it too easy to point out that the writers on 30 Rock aren’t doing themselves any favours by naming an episode of an uneven season quality-wise, ‘Nothing Left to Lose’? It is? All right.

(Apologies for the late recap, fellow Rockers. I was trying to help Tracy make his assets liquid again. Unfreezing a pool filled with money is not quick or easy work…)
This week’s overstuffed episode reminded me of the videos that the villains of Cold War flicks show to their victims in order to brainwash them: a lot of crazy images flash across the screen, and some of those images could actually be interesting or funny if the audience was given a second to process them. Instead, the videos only result in memory loss, loss of motor functions, and occasional vomiting.
Here are this week’s ‘30 Rock-Does-Things…Impatiently’ awards…
Double the 30 Rock, double the business cases and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles references! While neither of the nights two episodes were groundbreaking or side-splittingly hysterical, they were, for the most part, consistent character-wise and joke-wise. Here are the winners of this week’s 30 Rock-Does-Things-Frustratingly Awards:
True to the title of this week’s episode, Tina Fey and co. meet, but don’t exceed, the standards of 30 Rock’s uninspired-yet-still-enjoyable sixth season. ‘Standards and Practices’ has fantastic one-liners and sight gags, but it also has stories that have already been told in other (and sometimes better) ways.

Can John Riggi just write every episode from now on? In one episode alone, we get the fantastic return of Frank’s mother, a Law and Order parody we never knew we needed, and KENNETH’S PROMOTION!
Let’s hand out this week’s much-deserved 30 Rock-Does-Things Awards…
