This week’s overstuffed episode reminded me of the videos that the villains of Cold War flicks show to their victims in order to brainwash them: a lot of crazy images flash across the screen, and some of those images could actually be interesting or funny if the audience was given a second to process them. Instead, the videos only result in memory loss, loss of motor functions, and occasional vomiting.

Fringe takes us down memory lane with another solidly entertaining episode this week. Our Olivia’s (Anna Torv) memories are back, leaving her in blissful romance with Peter (Joshua Jackson) but what about the rest of the Fringe team? And what does the slow erasure of this timeline’s Olivia mean for this world?

After last week’s iffy episode, it pleases me to no end to see Awake rebound to heights unseen since its pilot as ‘Oregon’ proves to be quietly emotional. Oh sure, the police procedural component is familiar, but it is also exciting and reinforces some of the questions viewers have had about the series thus far.

So…where the hell did that come?! All of the sudden The Secret Circle explodes with an episode that’s humourous, well paced, full of thrilling “spell” sequences and reveals. What happened to my baby?!

Jane (Eliza Coupe) is pregnant, Dave (Zachary Knighton) is dying, Penny (Casey Wilson) has some sort of foot fungus and Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) is a lesbian. Now before you start asking where Fauxlivia is, it’s just another episode of Happy Endings where Penny says a tiny white lie that snowballs into a house of lies.

A new Madonna album is such a loaded event that it’s hard to come into it with a fresh perspective. After all this is the woman who has singlehandedly pushed pop music forward for the past 30 years. And while her early contemporaries have vanished into pop history or – more recently – passed away tragically, the Queen keeps working hard trying to stay relevant and hip in a world that is increasingly youth obsessed. There’s a benefit to recapping a show a bit late: you get a taste of what to expect from the reactions of others. To say that the reaction to ‘The Coup,’ the eighth episode of NBC’s Smash, is critical is a bit of an understatement (vehement, disbelieving hatred is probably closer to the truth). Thankfully, going in with below zero expectations made parts of a terrible episode tolerable, so that’s got to be good for something, right?
